The Starlight Muses Collection

Lauren McHale Art

I am an avid lover of all things celestial and will forever be "starry-eyed" for anything dealing with the stars. I guess I have my mom to thank for that as growing up she was always interested in the galactic universe ever since I can remember and most likely instilled that love in me. (To this day I still receive horoscope readings from her and know when and when not to buy electronics due to Mercury being in retrograde.)

For my first collection this summer I wanted to do something bold and bright and the inspiration struck me as I was doing some watercolor sketches. I saw the red bleed into the yellow creating an effect that looked like a melting sun. I was instantly pulled into a daze dreaming of all the sunsets I've seen color up the sky and realizing that it was all from one star. Like a master painter, that one star creates such drastic changes in both mood and color that we, here on earth, are lucky to be the audience for. This vivid vision laid the foundation for my Starlight Muses Collection.

I did many sketches for the three designs (and when I say many I mean 8 pages worth of sketches) until I felt confident that I had found three that really set the mood for each of the three Starlight Muses that I wanted to portray.

When I finally decided on the three color schemes I was able to purchase the dyes and start to fufill my vision.

Of course I couldn't leave out the part of the story where it almost become a disaster. Fun tip: Don't order your dyes a month in advance and throw the package in your studio without doing inventory when life gets busy, only to open it two weeks before your trip to find some dyes were missing! It was def an "Oh No no no no no" moment for sure and I was this close to throwing my hands up in surrender.

Instead, I put my game face on and said I was not going to Anna Maria Island without my next collection. And (thanks to Mercury not being in Retrograde) I prevailed! After all, I've been trying to learn to accept unforeseen changes in plans as an opportunity to grow, to learn to handle them accordingly, and to take them as creative challenges. And wouldn't you know, due to having to design and create whole new color schemes with the limits of only utilizing the dyes that I had, all three of the designs actually came out better than I ever expected.

So without further ado, I present to you my Newest collection: The Starlight Muses.

The Starlight Muses collection is inspired by the sun and it's radiant affects that we perceive at different times of the day. The three muses are the embodiment of that light and each one embodies a different ethereal majestic event. The Sunrise Muse is the goddess of Dawn and awakens the world with a warm pink aura. The Sunset Muse is the goddess of Dusk and covers the world in a golden veil. The Moonlight Muse is the goddess of night and brings a luminous glow to all her surroundings.
